Description
A full day in Royal National Park with a coastal hike, lagoon swim and picnic. Very small groups of maximum 7 guests, flexible flow, and a rare combination of coast, rainforest and lagoon that most tours never offer. No crowds, no rushed stops. Just a seamless day in nature at your pace.
Royal National Park is stunning in every season. In the cooler months the coastal light is extraordinary, the tracks are quieter and the whole park feels like it belongs to you. In warmer months we stop for a clifftop picnic with local cheeses and fresh fruit. In cooler months a warm café lunch along the Grand Pacific Drive.
We start with an easy pickup from Sydney CBD and head south into the park. From there we set out on a coastal hike to either Wedding Cake Rock or Eagle Rock, depending on the weather and how challenging you would like the walk to be. You will move across sandstone cliffs and coastal tracks with wide open ocean views and some of the most iconic scenery in the park. In winter, humpback whales migrate along this coastline and there is a real chance of spotting them from the clifftops, something most visitors never expect to find on a national park tour.
After the hike we slow things down at Wattamolla Lagoon, a stunning lagoon flowing into the ocean surrounded by cliffs and greenery. In the warmer months we settle in for a relaxed picnic with local cheeses, olives, dips and fresh fruit, with time to swim in the calm lagoon or take a dip in the ocean. In the cooler months we head to a local café along the Grand Pacific Drive for a warm meal.
We then continue into a hidden rainforest pocket that feels like a completely different world. Dense ferns, cabbage tree palms and towering eucalyptus. The air cools, the light softens, and you will often see butterflies moving through the forest.
On the way back we drive the Grand Pacific Drive, one of Australia's most spectacular coastal roads, and stop at Sea Cliff Bridge for one last walk and a final stretch of ocean views before heading back to Sydney.
The hike is around 8 km and moderate. The pace is always flexible and the day adapts to you, not the other way around. Please note I won't go into species details, but I'll give you a basic overview of the coast and its history.

Important Information
- If swimming is not ideal we switch to more scenic stops and coastal lookouts. You will never be stuck indoors. Expect uneven terrain, stairs and some steep sections. A moderate fitness level and enclosed walking shoes are required. Trails can get slippery after rain.The hike is around 8 km and moderate but the pace is always yours. Small groups mean we can shorten, slow down or push harder depending on what you need.
