Directions to Hamilton Island golf course
Designed by champion golfer Peter Thomson, the Hamilton Island Golf Club is the only championship island golf course in Australia, and more importantly, is the only one on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. The name Hamilton Island Golf Club is a little ambiguous as the club isn't actually on Hamilton Island but neighbouring Dent Island; however despite its name, it's definitely one of the best courses in the world for spectacular views.
The course is a tough one. The Par 71 golf course was designed with a series of 18 holes strung along a series of ridges and across some of the islands steep valleys, a course that will challenge even a world class professional. As well as the course itself, the golf club also features a driving range where golfers can work on their shots before, or after their game.
Getting to the course is not the usual kind of drive to the green, as the journey involves a ferry crossing over. The journey starts at the Hamilton Island Marina and Yacht Club where you board the custom-built Hamilton Island Golf Club ferry. Take the short but hugely enjoyable journey to the Dent Island Jetty, where you will be transferred up to the Clubhouse and pro-shop to begin your game. The ten minute ferry ride operates daily between 7am and 5:30pm and will coincide with your tee off time. The cost of the crossing is included in your green fees and spectators can also come along for an additional $30 per person return.
With stunning views over the Coral Sea and Passage Peak, the Hamilton Island Golf Clubhouse features both a shop and a stylish, relaxed restaurant and bar. It's the perfect location for enjoying a laid back lunch, or a refreshing drink at the end of our game, the good news is that it's not a members only club and you don't need to be a golfer to enjoy the clubhouse facilities. The restaurant is open to everyone and even offers a Lunch Special for $65 per person which includes return Island transfers, a two course a la carte lunch with a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink, and a complimentary tour of the golf club.
The fully stocked shop caters for every golfing need with top brand golf equipment, balls and accessories including a range of top quality clothing. If you didn't have room for your clubs or your gear, you can hire a range of general and premium Callaway clubs along with ladies and men's golf shoes at the shop. You can also polish up your skills with a lesson from the resident golf pro.
