Family Support
.`Working Together to Strengthen Families'The program aims to strengthen families by providing assistance and support to children and parents to reduce tension and `breakdown` of the family unit. It also aims to assist parents with decisions that affect their family situation. The program offers individual and group counselling:; parenting and child management skills; advocacy; support for children, young people and parents; referral to other services and seminars and workshops. The Family Support Service is for families experiencing difficult personal and relationship issues or families needing support during stressful times. Contact the Family Support Worker on 4946 7850.
Community Development
This program is co-ordinated by the Community Development Officer and deals with issues concerning our community as a whole. The mission is to assist in ensuring that the community receives a full range of human services. The CDO has a special responsibility for working alongside and assisting community groups. Limited Hours Child Care
Scallywags provides quality licensed care for up to 21 children between the ages of birth and five years. We can provide care for up to 20 hours per child per week. We aim to provide a warm, caring, stimulating and saf e environment and to nuture each child's self esteem through praise and positive reinforcement.
Bookings are essential. Hours are 9:OOam to 1:OOpm, Monday to Friday (except public holidays). Contact the Director, Scallywags Limited Hours Child Care on 4946 5609 or at Lot 2 Hazelwood Court, Cannonvale, for further information.
Out of School Hours Care
Cannonvale Out of School Hours Care is located opposite Cannonvale State School at 9 Coral Esplanade. Before School Care operates everyday of the school term from 6:3Oam to 8:3Oam. All children will be delivered to the school premises at 8.3Oam. A healthy breakfast is included. After School Care operates everyday of the term from 2:3Opm to 6:OOpm. This is a licensed child care service that
provides fully supervised play and recreational activities in a safe , secure and relaxed environment. The Commonwealth Child Care Benefits applies. Bookings are essential. Contact the Co-ordinator of Out of School Hours and Vacation Care on 4946 4299.
Emergency Relief
The Neighbourhood Centre is an agency for emergency relief assistance. Under strict Government guidelines, and providing that funds are available, we can assist people in crisis with food and fuel vouchers together with some relief for household bills and emergency accommodation.
Frozen Bread Scheme
With the support of Brumby`s we are able to offer day old bread to families and individuals in need. Bread can be collected from our freezer at reception, Monday to Friday 9:OOam until 3:OOpm daily.
Endeavour Room
Located at the Neighbourhood Centre, the Endeavour Room is a modern, air conditioned multi-purpose room or conference facility. It has it's own kitchen, TV VCR, and overhead projector and is suitable for:
Meetings: Support Groups: Seminars: Interest Groups: Clubs: Adult Education Classes Bookings are essential and costs are very moderate. Contact reception on 4946 7850 to make reservations.
Opportunity Shops
We have two opportunity shops run by generous and willing volunteers. They are both located at the Neighbourhood Centre. The 'Op Shop' includes clothing, bric-a-brac and 'The Shed' includes larger items such as furniture.
Whitsunday NILS
Whitsunday NILS offer people on low income the opportunity to access credit for an essential household item without any fees, charges or interest payments. As loans are repaid, the money is lent out to other members of the community to utilise this service. NILS is generally for the purchase of essential
household items like fridge, washing machine, bed, lounge etc. NILS may also be provided to meet other essential needs including health aids or education costs. Contact the Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre to find out if you are eligible.
Lifeline Counselling
Lifeline Counselling is available at the Neighbourhood Centre and appointments can be made by contacting Lifeline Mackay on 131 114. A qualified counsellor will be able to help you deal with personal issues, family issues, relationship issues and more.
Legal Aid
The Neighbourhood Centre is a Community Access Point for Legal Aid Queensland. We can help with paperwork, forms and information in regards to accessing Legal Aid. Ph 1300 65 11 88
